Join Beth Abraham as we host Rahel Musleah, an award-winning journalist, author, singer and educator, born in Calcutta to a family that traces its roots to 17th-century Baghdad. Rahel will lead both Friday night and Saturday morning services, opening a fascinating window into a culture and customs little-known to most American congregations. Through stories, authentic photographs, memorabilia, and music, during services and over lunch, Rahel will highlight the distinctive Calcutta traditions and Baghdadi melodies, enriching your community's understanding of global Jewish diversity.
An Indian-style kiddush lunch will follow Shabbat services on May 9. If you might come for lunch please register below so we can have an idea of how many to expect, and donations are very much appreciated.
Free of charge and donations are welcome. Open to all, and we welcome our non-Jewish neighbors who have lived in India or whose families come from India.
