On Monday, January 27, bestselling author Dani Shapiro will visit The Music Hall to discuss her new bestselling memoir, INHERITANCE, an exploration of the ethical questions surrounding fertility treatments and DNA testing, and a profound inquiry into the complexity surrounding paternity, identity, and love. This event will be in conversation with Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, author of the international bestseller "The Body Keeps the Score", and will be broadcast as a bonus episode for Dani Shapiro’s hit podcast, "Family Secrets."

This thought-provoking memoir asks the question, what makes us who we are? In the spring of 2016 when, through a genealogy website to which she had whimsically submitted her DNA for analysis, Dani Shapiro received the stunning news that her father was not her biological father. She was not Eastern European Ashkenazi on both sides. She woke up one morning and her entire history—the life she had lived—crumbled beneath her. INHERITANCE is a book about the extraordinary moment we live in—a moment in which science and technology have outpaced not only medical ethics but also the capacities of the human heart to contend with the consequences of what we discover.
