Temple Israel is a warm and dynamic conservative, fully egalitarian Jewish family. Founded over 100 years ago by immigrants to the New Hampshire seacoast, the synagogue is conveniently located in the historic district of Portsmouth. The historic sanctuary is surrounded by paned windows and woodwork reflecting craftsmanship nearly 200 years old. Services every Friday and Saturday employ traditional Hebrew liturgy and encourage congregational participation. Social events and educational programming take place in the attached modern social hall and school with its own chapel and library. The community also enjoys Family services monthly, as well as ongoing Adult Education classes and enrichment programming. The Hebrew School teaches an extensive curriculum for kindergarten through seventh grade. The Early Learning Center is a licensed, nondenominational Jewish preschool for children ages 2 years-9 months to 5 years.
