Please join Temple Israel, Portsmouth, for a special Kabbalat Shabbat service sponsored by the Tikkun Olam Committee, followed by an oneg Shabbat.
Guest speakers who work closely with new immigrants in Portsmouth, and special musical guests Lisa Jane Lipkin and Jay Hitt, will join Rabba Kaya Stern-Kaufman for this special service.
About our guest speakers: Maggie Fogarty, NH Program Director of the American Friends Service Committee and a leader of Seacoast Interfaith Sanctuary Coalition (SISC), will talk about immigrants who have resettled in our area.
Sudie Blanchard and Charlotte Ramsey, Team Seacoast leaders, will share the rewarding (and continuing!) experience of resettling the Khyber family, who moved to Portsmouth after escaping from the Taliban in Afghanistan.
Adding to the ongoing crisis for those fleeing danger in their home countries, people seeking asylum are turned away at borders around the world. This Shabbat service is an opportunity for our Jewish community, along with congregations, organizations and individuals, to demonstrate our shared support for immigrants and asylum seekers around the world.
This event will be held in person in the sanctuary and also available via Zoom, using the regular link for services. You can register to receive the Zoom link and help us plan for refreshments!
